Fritz!Box devices, made by AVM, work well with Simbase SIM cards. This guide covers hardware setup, first connection, and the APN and roaming settings needed to get online.
Before you start, make sure your SIM is activated in the Simbase dashboard. If it isn't, see SIM state first.
Punch out the correct SIM size from your Simbase SIM card
Insert the SIM into the router's SIM holder and push until it clicks into place
Connect the power cable to the router and plug it into an outlet
It takes the router a few minutes after power-on for its Wi-Fi network to appear. The Wi-Fi name (SSID) and password are printed on the bottom of the device.
Connect your computer to the router's Wi-Fi
Open a browser and go to 169.254.1.1
Log in using the username and password printed on the bottom of the router, or included with the device documentation
Once you're in the admin panel:
In the left-hand menu, select Internet, then Account Information
Enable Specify access point name (APN) and enter the APN for your SIM profile. Most profiles use simbase. Check Set up the APN for your profile's APN before continuing
Scroll down, enable Permit roaming, and set Roaming via provider to Automatically
Click Apply at the bottom of the page
That's it. Your Fritz!Box should now connect to the internet over your Simbase SIM.
For background on what an APN does and how Simbase's APN profiles work, see Set up the APN.
If you're working with the Fritz!Box 6820 specifically, here are its key specs:

Other Fritz!Box models will have different specs. Check AVM's documentation for your exact model.
Yes. A Simbase SIM isn't registered to a local operator, so it roams onto every network, including at home. Leave Permit roaming off and the router won't connect anywhere.
Menu layouts change between firmware versions. Update to the latest AVM firmware and the setting appears under Internet → Account Information.
Any model with a SIM slot, which is the LTE range such as the 6820 and 6850. What decides it is whether the model supports the bands used where you deploy. See Compatibility check.
Fritz!Box LTE models take a physical SIM card, so use a standard Simbase SIM. If you're looking at a newer model, check AVM's spec sheet for your exact model before ordering.
