The GL.iNet GL-X300B, also known as the Collie, is a compact 4G LTE router. This guide covers hardware setup, connecting to the router, setting the APN, and optionally enabling remote access.
Before you start, make sure your SIM is activated in the Simbase dashboard. If it isn't, see SIM state first.
Press the SIM holder release button with the included needle and remove the SIM tray
Insert your Simbase SIM into the tray, chip facing upwards, and slide it back into the router
Connect the antennas to their labeled connectors
Connect the power cable to the router and plug it into an outlet
The router takes a few minutes after power-on for its Wi-Fi network to appear. The Wi-Fi name (SSID) starts with GL-X300B, and the password is goodlife.
Connect your computer to the router's Wi-Fi, or connect via an Ethernet cable to the LAN port
Open a browser and go to 192.168.8.1
Choose your preferred language and set an admin password
For a visual walkthrough of this step, see GL.iNet's initial configuration guide.
In the left-hand menu, click INTERNET
Under Cellular, click Manual Setup
Click More
Clear the APN field and enter simbase (most profiles use simbase; check Set up the APN for the APN specific to your use case and SIM profile)
Optionally, set the MTU value to 1200
Click Apply
Your device should now connect to the internet.
For background on what an APN does and how Simbase's APN profiles work, see Set up the APN.
If you need to reach the router's admin panel without being on its local network, you have two options: forwarding a port, or using GL.iNet's GoodCloud platform.
For a visual walkthrough of remote access, see GL.iNet's remote access tutorial.
Make sure your SIM has a public or private IP assigned. See Public IPs
While connected to the router's Wi-Fi or LAN, go to 192.168.8.1 and log in
Click Firewall, then Open Ports on Router
Enter:
Name: HTTP
Port: 80
Protocol: TCP
Status: Enabled
Click Add
The router's admin panel is now reachable on its public or private IP.
Go to Applications → Remote Access
Enable GoodCloud, then Remote Web and/or Remote SSH as needed
Select your preferred platform zone
Copy the Device ID
Agree to the Terms & Conditions and click Apply
Log in to GoodCloud
Go to Device List and click + Add device
Paste the copied Device ID, click the refresh button, and select your device
Give the device a friendly name and click Add Device
Your router is now connected to GoodCloud and can be managed remotely from there.
For full hardware specs and further setup details, see GL.iNet's official GL-X300B documentation.
It depends on your SIM profile and specific use case. Most use simbase, but other APNs are available. Check Set up the APN for your profile before you configure the router.
Port forwarding needs a public or private IP and exposes the admin panel over plain HTTP. GoodCloud works through GL.iNet's platform whatever your network setup, and is usually the simpler and safer choice.
A lower MTU avoids fragmentation on cellular networks, which can otherwise cause slow or stalled connections. Leave it alone unless you see those symptoms, then try 1200.
